Hilton Worldwide Welcomes Waldorf Astoria to Scotland

After a £24m Investment Programme the Iconic Caledonian Hilton Edinburgh is set to join Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts Portfolio

LONDON & MCLEAN, Va. - Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of a new agreement with the existing owner to convert the Caledonian Hilton Edinburgh hotel to the Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts brand. The landmark property, which will see further significant investment, will be known as The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The deal marks the debut of Hilton Worldwide's fast paced and world renowned luxury brand in Scotland.

The Edinburgh Caledonian, a legend in the Scottish hospitality industry, opened its doors to international travellers more than 100 years ago and has gained an enviable reputation as one of the city's leading hotels.  Uniquely situated in the heart of Edinburgh, the 241 room property affords stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and its surrounds.

Opening in summer 2012, The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel will be gloriously restored to inspire at every level and will provide a guest experience that continues the legacy of The Waldorf=Astoria New York. Already £10m has been spent on enhancing the hotel with a further £14m planned as part of the conversion process. Following the re-branding, there will be a number of additions and improvements to its stunning facilities and services including the public spaces, rooms, spa and restaurant.

This announcement comes soon after the launch of London Syon Park, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel in March this year, a unique hotel set in the beautiful surrounds of the Duke of Northumberland's estate only seven miles from Knightsbridge in London. This will also be joined by Waldorf Astoria Sevilla at la Boticaria, which opens in Spain later this year, and offers a truly authentic Andalusian experience, including an equestrian centre.

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts includes 24 landmark destinations around the globe, with a further nine due to open between now and the end of 2014, each with its own story and identity. Further European additions will appear in Berlin and Jerusalem in early 2012.
